First Looks Photoshoot?

Things to Consider!

One of the most important decisions you’ll make when planning your wedding is whether or not to have a first looks photo shoot. Traditionally, the bride and groom see one another for the first time as the bride walks down the aisle. Many couples now opt for a time just before the ceremony set aside for a first looks photo shoot. Below are just a few pros and cons to assist you in making this difficult decision.

Pros:

Sure, all in, I’m a modern bride.

Looking Your Best – Every bride wants to look perfect in their wedding photos and when the groom sees her for the first time on their wedding day. Arranging for a photoshoot before the ceremony means your hair and makeup are fresh. In addition, you will both be more relaxed before the ceremony.

Slow It Down – A photoshoot before the ceremony gives the photographer more time to focus on capturing intimate moments between the bride and groom. Otherwise, getting the photos and meeting the guests at the reception is a mad rush. Let’s face it, none of us photograph as well under that much pressure.

Take A Time Out – Without that time set aside for photos after the ceremony, you can begin the reception immediately or even give the bridal party a much-needed break in between.

Cons:

No thanks, I prefer traditional.

Loses Authenticity – Even though you can set up the first look photoshoot to include a surprise factor, it still loses some authenticity. For instance, on my wedding day, I can recall my nervousness and a feeling of serenity when my husband turned and our eyes locked. The photographer captured this moment perfectly in our first look photo. It is a moment that we’ll cherish always.

Requires More Preparation – Scheduling the photoshoot before the ceremony will require additional preparations and an earlier start to your day. In addition, if the area you plan to use for your photoshoot is also a part of the ceremony or reception, it may interfere with that setup.

All Dressed Up – Remember that this pre-ceremonial photoshoot also means being in your wedding attire longer. You may become uncomfortable in extreme weather conditions.

Ultimately, it comes down to your preference, poised or spontaneous wedding photos? Just remember this is your only wedding day for which they are no do-overs.
